The MOV-e project enters its final stage

The MOV-e project enters its final stage. After two years of cross-border collaboration, the MOV-e project has transformed how physiotherapy is taught across Europe. We’re taking a moment to reflect on our achievements.

What is the MOV-e project?

MOV-e is an international initiative changing physiotherapy education in Europe. The project aims to create new teaching methods. These methods help students and practitioners meet the diverse needs of patients.

A true international collaboration

For this project, we at KIC partnered with universities and a hospital from several countries: Finland, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Slovenia, Spain, and Turkey. This collaboration combines different views and strengths to make physiotherapy education easier and more practical.

What we’ve created

We’ve developed 15 online courses, first in English and then translated into multiple languages. Our goal is to give students and educators resources they can use directly.

About the courses

The courses combine interactive lessons, real-world examples, and hands-on exercises to develop both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Each course addresses specific challenges physiotherapists face when working with diverse patient groups.

Topics include:

  • Pregnancy and women’s health — managing low back pain during pregnancy and using gender-sensitive communication with families.
  • Geriatric care — assessing balance and fall risks in older patients with osteoporosis, including those who may behave challenging.
  • Special populations — working with visually impaired patients, adults with intellectual disabilities, and those from various cultural backgrounds.

These courses highlight clinical skills and also stress communication, cultural awareness, and professional boundaries. These elements are key to modern physiotherapy practice.

Beyond the courses, the project has produced:

  • lesson scenarios for practical application
  • a supplementary manual for educators
  • a model for creating new international courses

Students in different countries are now testing these outputs. Their feedback will shape the final versions.

Innovation through technology

To reach more learners, we’ve experimented with AI-powered translation and dubbing tools. This lets us explore how technology can support multilingual education in a faster, more affordable way. It also shows how rapidly these technologies advance and how we must adapt them for future projects.

Looking ahead

As we near completion, we are focusing on sharing results. We want to ensure our work continues to support physiotherapy students and academic staff. This has been a journey of cooperation, problem-solving, and learning about physiotherapy education and cross-border collaboration.

We’ll publish the final materials and results for wider use in the coming weeks. We look forward to sharing them with our community and anyone interested in innovative approaches to physiotherapy education. All project outputs are available on the MOV-e website.

This journey has taken us across countries, languages, and ideas. We’re grateful to have been part of it.
