This MICROBOL project framework establishes how micro-credentials can integrate into the European Higher Education Area using existing Bologna tools. It defines micro-credentials as “certified small volumes of learning” designed to provide specific knowledge, skills, and competences responding to societal, personal, cultural, or labour market needs. The framework outlines constitutive elements including learner information, provider details, learning experience data, and qualifications framework levels. It emphasises that Bologna tools (quality assurance via ESG standards, recognition through Lisbon Recognition Convention, and ECTS credits) are applicable to micro-credentials, though implementation requires institutional collaboration and stakeholder engagement across the EHEA.
