This MicroHE project document reports on a four-stage Delphi study examining the future impact of micro-credentials on European Higher Education Institutions over the next 5-10 years. The study engaged 29 experts across Europe through workshops, surveys, and scenario analysis. Three potential adoption scenarios were identified: wide-scale, partial, and minimal embrace of micro-credentials by HEIs. Key findings highlight that successful implementation requires overcoming barriers including lack of trust between institutions, need for standardisation and common frameworks, technological infrastructure for portability, and collaboration between universities, employers, and policymakers. The research identifies critical drivers including European policy initiatives, technological advances, and institutional openness to modularisation.
